A few days ago spring officially began. The good weather season will bring with it the so dreaded change of closet, decoration, furniture... We will banish the blankets and comforters from our storage furniture until October for fresher materials and that do not give a feeling of burden as soon as we see them.

Método konmari

If at the same time that you change the closet, you want to leave the house perfectly tidy, get rid of everything that gets in the way, be aware of everything you have in your home and, why not, be happier; your best ally will be the KonMari method, don't you know it yet?

libro la magia del orden

Marie Kondo, creator of the KonMari method and tidying guru, explains that to start organizing you must first throw away everything you don't need or bring happiness. In her experience, most people complain that they lack storage space when the problem is that they accumulate too much. So organizing is nothing more than deciding whether or not to throw away an item and deciding where to store it.

This method promises to transform your space and, is that, turning your home or workplace into a clean and tidy space can be easier than you think, starting from the design of the hallways, thanks to Marie Kondo and the key points of her method that we explain below. In addition, we include a downloadable checklistwith everything you need to make this change much easier and leave nothing behind!

1. FIRST THROW AWAY THEN KEEP

What to keep and what to throw away is the first problem that arises when you start tidying up. According to Marie, when we store we create the sensation of order, but in truth: we hide what we don't need in a closet, in a drawer or on designer shelves until they fill up and the chaos starts all over again. This is called the rebound effect. The KonMari method is based on 2 basic steps:

-       Eliminate what doesn't make you happy.

-       Put things away.

And it must be done in that order because a common mistake is to paralyze the process by thinking where to keep any object. The result is a much slower process, running the risk of becoming unmotivated.

What criteria to follow when getting rid of things

Marie comments that it is a MISTAKE to try to follow traditional rules. You should focus on choosing what you want to keep, that is, keep ONLY what makes you happy by asking yourself: Does this make me happy? If you have doubts ask yourself why you bought or acquired the object, if that reason is still present and what it means now in your life.

2. START TIDYING UP BUT DO IT ALL AT ONCE.

Mari Kondo is very explicit and strict on this point "If you really want to forget about clutter forever, you have to apply the method to your whole house and do it all at once, in the shortest possible time". Because the shock is so great that from that moment on you won't leave anything out of place.

Therefore, forget about tidying little by little, it never helps to see results and you will reach a point of overwhelm, boredom and despair. Of course, at once the whole house does not mean in one day, but it should be done as often as possible.

In addition, he recommends that the act of tidying up your house should not only be done quickly, but should become a special moment, an act of celebration.

3. STORAGE: SIMPLE AND ALL IN ONE PLACE

The key to maintaining a tidy space is to look for simplicity in storage. First, do some research around the house and accumulate in one place everything you have in one category. The goal is to visualize the volume and find out how many items are repeated or serve the same function.

MÉTODO KONMARI

Marie Kondo proposes to arrange the house based on these categories and ALWAYS following this order (as they are linked to the level of difficulty involved in each one, from lowest to highest):

  1. Clothes
  2.    Books
  3.    Papers
  4.   Various objects
  5.  Sentimental objects

So do not complicate, just determine where to keep your things, everything that is similar in the same place, that is, sort by categories. As you reduce your possessions, the "click time" will come when you will reach the right amount of items for you.

4. GAIN SPACE - VERTICAL STORAGE IS KEY.

One of the great successes of the KonMari method is the vertical storage. With it everything is easier to see: the clothes at the bottom are not forgotten, the bottom ones are not crushed and the space is better utilized.

Marie Kondo in her book "The magic of order" says that it is better to hang the indispensable. That is to say, only hang the clothes that "need" a hanger, such as delicate shirts or jackets, because in the space where you hang 10 garments you can store between 20 and 40 folded ones.

MÉTODO KONMARI

The vertical storage method consists of making the garments "hold" in this way. To do this, you only have to make one or more folds than usual. If it is not clear to you, here is a video example.

5. CHOOSE THE RIGHT MOMENT TO SORT: NO CRISIS AND DON'T LET ANYONE SEE YOU

It is best to start sorting, throwing away and saving first thing in the morning, when the mind is clearer. Avoid starting the process at times when you are under pressure (exam, meeting, trip...) or on important dates because, once the crisis moment passes, the motivation to continue sorting fades. This occurs because the brain in times of stress needs order of ideas and the only way is to be in an environment where you can think without distractions.

Also never let anyone see you when you are doing the tidying process or the things you are going to get rid of. This will prevent them from influencing your decisions, making you feel guilty or wanting to keep anything you throw away.

6. DON'T GIVE TO GET RID OF IT

Marie recommends not giving away everything you no longer want simply because you don't feel guilty about throwing it away. But there is a big difference between giving away something that the other person likes or needs (they would pay money for it) and giving away forcing/forcing another person to accept it, usually by making them feel guilty for not accepting the item you want to get rid of.

7. APPRECIATE YOUR POSSESSIONS, KEEP WHAT IS DEAR TO YOUR HEART
