This month in Trends Home we introduce you to a member of the team. Our interior designer Esperanza Viñals has been with us since 2017 and is one of the people behind the projects of Trends Studio. Let's get to know her better through this interview made for you.

Esperanza Viñal's background, experience and decorative preferences

- how did you discover your interest in this world?

Since I was very young, I already liked to look through the design and architecture magazines that were around the house. My father was passionate about design.

- what is design for you?

For me, design is born from space, since space is the physical matter that delimits the environment we seek to transform, improve and beautify. From there I start thinking and imagining to get to project something creative, where I can create useful and aesthetic spaces or objects.

- Define your style:

I don't pigeonhole myself in any very defined style, but I do go for a simple, functional and comfortable style. It has to be accompanied by a good aesthetic and harmony, I could say that it resembles the Nordic and Mediterranean style where natural materials such as wood, stone, the combination of textures ... creating a warm and cozy space.

- what do you like most about your work?

What I like most about my work is its dynamism and that I am always in constant movement.

- what is your favorite room in the house when you work?

My favorite room is the dining room. For me it is a multifunctional area where I can turn the dining table or even the sofa into my work area, plus it is where I get the most natural light, which is a must for me.

- A material:

Wood. The more natural, the better. For me it is the noble material par excellence.

- A color:

White.

- functionality or aesthetics?

I think that a good project should manage to link the two characteristics, neither of them should be allowed to fail.

- how important is lighting for you?

Lighting is a very important part, both natural and artificial. The point is that there should be plenty of light.

The light communicates the rooms and manages to transfer the nature of the exterior to the interior of the house or space, thus communicating both places.

To the artificial light I do not give importance to it. It is necessary to think about a good lighting for the night. I bet on several points of light: ceiling lamps, floor lamps, table lamps .... It's all about finding the perfect fusion. And, of course, to finish giving a warm touch, a nice chandelier and candles. They are warmth personified.

- what project would you like to do?

I would love to be able to do a complete interior design project for a boutique hotel or an agritourism.

- what inspires you?

I am inspired by travel, the sea, the sun, architecture and people.

- what trends are you betting on for this year?

Both the Nordic style and wood, for me the star material, are still in our inspirations and continue to be a trend. Stone, terrazzo, marble... create a very interesting play of materials. Also the lighter and visually lighter furniture structures.

For complements, colors such as green, mint, pink, earth tones and black.

Indoor plants are once again decorating many of our rooms.

- what are your favorite pieces from Trends Home?

- Five decorative tips or tricks:

  1. In small spaces always use light and bright colors and visually light furniture.
  2. To create a warm and cozy space you can never miss the wood and some plants.
  3. Less is more, never clutter the space with unnecessary things.
  4. Use neutral colors in the furniture to be able to play with the colors in the accessories, which can be changed more easily.
  5. Place a mirror strategically to create a visual effect of spaciousness.
