Whoever says that old things go out of fashion is very wrong. Fashions are cyclical but design and genius will always be present. There are elements in decoration and design furniture that, although they were designed decades ago, are still and will be current. Furniture that are already pieces of art in themselves, furniture that we would all like to have at home because: no matter how much time passes, its beauty and timelessness will always last

The twentieth century, without a doubt, was a time of transformations and innovations in the social field as well as in the world of design; the world wars, social changes and the industrial revolution provoked creative movements such as: Bauhaus, art deco, modernism, De Stijl, rationalism and a long etcetera that ended up stopping and breaking with the traditional craftsmanship of furniture and launched new concepts within industrial design: minimalism, organicism, rationalism, futurism.... currents that reach us today and whose aesthetics and functionality have not been affected by the passage of time.

Contrary to what one might think, these design classics continue to provide an elegant and modern touch today. The wide range of furniture designed in the last century (XX) has seen how time has not passed them by; proof of this is that after many decades they are still being produced and marketed with great success.

These classics of modern design are the result of the ingenuity, intuition and creativity of great masters such as: the Eames couple, Isamu Noguchi, Mies van der Rohe or Philippe Starck among many others. Tireless minds that resoundingly and forever changed the conception of industrial furniture design.

If you are passionate about design get ready, take note of these pieces and enjoy the 6 classics of decoration.

THE BARCELONA CHAIR

The Barcelona chair or Mies Van Der Rohe chair model MR90 was designed in 1926. It is a piece of simple, elegant, discreet and harmonious lines, that is, modernity and simplicity in its purest form. It was conceived to decorate the German pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona Universal Exposition and was used by the King and Queen of Spain.

It is speculated which was the source of inspiration for Mies van der Rohe to create this piece: the folding chairs of Ancient Egypt or the "curulis" used by Roman magistrates; with the aim of creating a functional piece.

The structure of the Barcelona chair is made of polished stainless steel and the seat and backrest are made of leather design chairs the beauty and design of these pieces means that many parts of the work of this piece are still handmade.

JUICY SALIF JUICER

Designed by Philipe Starck in 1990, it is both a juicer and a sculpture. Despite the shape, this juicer is not inspired by a chandelier; rather, Philipe Starck made a first sketch on a napkin just after having to squeeze a lemon into a plate of squid.

This piece made of polished aluminum is considered a collector's jewel and an icon of industrial design.

EAMES CHAIR

The Eames chair, more than 50 years old, became the first industrially manufactured plastic chair and is still considered a true icon in decoration. It was created by Charles Eames and his wife Ray Eames for the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

This chair, perfect for both home and work, is comfortable, functional and sturdy. A tremendously versatile piece, a characteristic that has made it one of the most replicated and marketed models.

CHESTERFIELD SOFA

A classic symbol of traditional English design, the Chesterfield sofa, also known as Chester, is a classic and iconic piece of furniture. It was born with the clear objective of favoring the adoption of correct and manly postures, that is, a straight back and an upright body; a posture typical of the English gentlemen of the 19th century. To achieve this, the backrest and armrests are at the same height and the seat is not deep.

LOUIS GHOST CHAIR

This young and iconic chair has become one of the world's best-selling chairs, and it's only 16 years old. Philippe Starck is the author of this piece; he redesigned the Louis XV style adapting it to a new design with modern materials such as transparent polycarbonate from a single mold.

We could say that it is the perfect synthesis between romanticism and technology, between plasticity and industrialization, between elegance and irreverence, but above all between character and versatility. For this reason, it has become an essential piece in both residential and commercial interior design. Its rounded shape gives it a baroque look, while the material (polycarbonate) from which this chair is made gives it lightness and a contemporary touch.

BUTTERFLY CHAIR

The Butterfly chair, also known as BKF chair, was first introduced in 1938 by its creators: Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy. It was precisely the initials of these three architects and designers that gave it the name BKF.

At the functional level, the weight rests on a light steel structure and the body of the seat and backrest is based on a single piece of leather. Due to its characteristics it has become a unique piece with more than 75 years that far from going out of fashion has become a must for all those who love design and decoration.
