Glass identifiers

Glass identifiers are one of the simplest and most useful inventions we can have in our sommelier arsenal. The experience to taste and taste wine properly depends on both the quality of the wine itself and the utensils we use to make everything much easier and dynamic, in this case the glass identifiers or markers will help us to prevent our guests from exchanging drinks unintentionally or that we can identify different types of wines served at a glance.

If we are used to hold tastings in our home or receptions in which we invite several people, it is usual that each one has to be aware of his own glass so as not to lose it among the others, so the glass markers make this no longer a problem. If in addition each glass has different types of wine of life personal tastes the scientists also allow us to link each type of glass to one in particular making it much easier that they can be served again.

The glass identifiers are usually small plastic instruments that are placed inside the neck and edify the glass with respect to the others; in addition the glass identifiers can also be used as an extra grip under the body of the glass, making it much more difficult to fall and avoiding that our own hands make a heat transmission that alters the chemical composition of the wine that we are living at that moment.

Cava stoppers

The cava stopper is undoubtedly the most important thing when it comes to safeguarding the quality of the final product once opened. In most cases the cava stopper is made of cork, which allows the flavor to be preserved over time once the bottle has been opened, and the stopper itself creates an airtight seal that prevents any contamination from the outside. Depending on the type of stopper in which we find ourselves or opening will be easier or simpler, some that have vacuum pumps specifically created for a total seal inside the bottle itself.

In a tasting or simply if we want to enjoy a cava at home, we will need to have a quality stopper that allows us to maintain its integrity. Contact with the outside air can alter the cava's chemistry and therefore its taste, diminishing its quality over time. Just as it is not advisable to store bottles of cava in direct sunlight, it is equally important to protect the cava from environmental factors suspended in the air. The cava stopper, regardless of whether it is the one that comes by default in the bottle or a special one that allows easy opening, is an indispensable element in any self-respecting personal cellar.

Vacuum pumps for wine

One of the main risks if we want to taste a wine alone or with our partner, is that once opened, the natural degradation of the wine begins over time. In most cases it is necessary to consume the wine in a short period of time if we want it to keep all its flavor and the natural chemistry of the moment it was bottled. Normally, special wine stoppers were used to create airtight closures inside the bottles, but this did not prevent the wine from coming into contact with the air when the bottle was opened. It was precisely to solve this problem that the wine vacuum pump was created.

The wine vacuum pump makes it possible to create a total hermetic seal regardless of the stopper being used. The vacuum pump allows to extract all the air inside the bottle to create an airtight seal and preserve the natural chemistry of the wine so that its flavors are not affected regardless of the time that has passed since it was opened. If the hermetic seal is almost total, it is not perfect and the degradation of the wine will continue simply because it has already come into contact with the air at the time it was being served. The wine vacuum pump usually incorporates silicone rubber stoppers specially designed to operate with it, as it is how we will ensure the perfect seal inside our bottle.

Depending on the model, using a vacuum pump for wine can be simpler or more complex, but if it is a fairly simple process that is done in a few minutes by manual activation, the pump is responsible for repeatedly sucking out all the oxygen inside the bottle, creating that airtight vacuum. It is important that when we use the pump at the moment of removing the nozzle from the stopper we hear the click or the corresponding indicator to know that the hermetic seal has been closed, otherwise we run the risk of external environmental factors entering and gradually filtering the vacuum inside.

Corkscrew

There are two traditional forms of corkscrew used in Spanish houses, the traditional corkscrew formed by a simple lever mechanism and the more modern corkscrew with the same lever mechanism but with auxiliary elements that make it easier to use, such as a nozzle adjuster or auxiliary arms for drying the cork. Regardless of the type of wine corkscrew we are using we have to make sure that it maintains the integrity of the cork and stopper when used, from here to a bad corkscrew to comment to and will create breaks inside the cork that in the long run will favor that they will break and that we will have to make a very complex manipulation to remove it. In addition, a low quality corkscrew will cause air to filter through the cracks in the cork and therefore come into contact with environmental factors that alter the composition and taste of the wine.
